In pencil. #2 HB

This is a self portrait which I did near the end of the year in my Art II Class. I was never really good at converting what I see to paper, as made obvious by this drawing. My real problem is I like to draw things as I see them(i.e. If they're big, draw them big; if they're small, draw them small); if I ever deviate from what I see, it usually ends up wrong, because sometimes I go by what I see without realizing it.

As you can see, I tried to be as detailed as possible. Since this drawing took several days to complete, I had washed my hair before completing it, so the right side is a little odd. I also rushed near the end, so my sweater(which was a rather dark navy color) and my polo aren't exactly perfect. If you would like to compare it to my actual face, you can look at this deviation or this picture(ignore the crazy hair do and overbearing eyes, I just look like that when I'm serious).

Speaking of serious, I was trying really hard not to have a serious look on my face when doing this... It was really hard! I mean, it looks like I want to punch someone when I'm serious and concentrating, so trying to not look like that(and not laugh at myself trying not to look like that; I had a mirror to look at the whole time) was pretty difficult. ^^;

You can't help having a serious face, it runs in the family..

This is a favourite of mine because of the subtle details you did put into it. If you want to get a better picture of it, go to a well lighted room and zoom. I can't really see it that well. I can show you how, if you'd like.

This was taken in my room, with the fan lights on, in the middle of the day. The only way I could get more light would be to take it outside or use the flash on my camera, and I don't think either would help much.

In the case of the flash, it gives my drawing "red eye"; only it's not red. XD
That, and it makes the rest of the drawing darker.

Thanks for your advice, it's appreciated. ^.^

I actually was thinking more along the lines of outside, natural lighting. You'd have to get on the ground the way no shadow would show. Let the sun be your flash. How hazardous you may think this may be is completely irrelevant.:lol:You have get close without using the zoom, and let the sun be the light source. The picture taking should be easier.

Just a suggestion.

Both of our places of residence suffer from bad lighting :XD:

Will I be scorched when the sun flashes? XD

You shouldn't be. However, if you are, you will be the first. :P
